Meet Dr. R. Kirk Smith (Pine Hills, FL)

Robert “Kirk” Smith, O.D., received his Doctor of Optometry at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. He proudly completed his undergraduate studies at Florida State University. After completing a residency in ocular disease at the Eye Foundation in Orlando, Dr. Smith, a native Floridian, decided to remain in Central Florida to raise his family.

Having served as a president of the Central Florida Society of Optometric Physicians, Dr. Smith remains involved in the optometric community, including serving as an examiner for the Florida State Optometry Exam.

While attending optometry school, he also “studied” BBQ and mastered the art of grilling almost as well as eye care. Growing up in Lake Worth, Florida, Dr. Smith’s family optometrist fit him for glasses and contact lenses, which inspired him to enter the field of optometry.

Dr. Smith joined Orlando Eyecare in 1996 and carries on the tradition of excellence in eye care that Dr. Devine founded in 1961.

Dr. Smith lives in downtown Orlando with his wife, Kris, a pharmacist, and his two daughters. He and Kris spend much of their free time coaching their daughters’ sports teams and cooking BBQ sandwiches for their friends and family.
